PROGRAM NO LONGER RUNNING The Sowing the Seeds of Hope program (1999-2010) provided behavioral health services to uninsured, underinsured and other at-risk farm and ranch families and agricultural workers. Seven states (Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin) formed the regional program in 1999.

Cultivate Kansas City's Urban Farmer Development program provides one on one technical assistance and other services for new and experienced farmers to start, run or improve their farm businesses. They also assist urban market growers.

"New Roots for Refugees is a program started by Catholic Charities in partnership with the Kansas City Center for Urban Agriculture to help refugee women put down those new roots, through helping them to start their own small farm businesses growing and selling vegetables.

The Land Institute aims to "develop an agricultural system with the ecological stability of the prairie and a grain yield comparable to that from annual crops." The Institute publishes books and research articles, hosts conferences, and gives public presentations.

Growing Growers is a collaboration between the Kansas State University Research and Extension, University of Missouri, Kansas City Food Circle, and Kansas Rural Center. The program includes on-farm apprenticeship program that focuses on sustainable, small and mid-scale production.

The Kansas Beginning Farmer Loan Program makes loans available at below market interest rates to help farmers, a valuable assets for the State of Kansas. The program can be used for beginning farmers and ranchers to purchase agricultural land, farm buildings, farm equipment and breeding livestock.

"The Kansas Rural Center, Inc. (KRC) is a non-profit organization that promotes the long-term health of the land and its people through research, education, and advocacy." Current programs and projects focus on water quality, wind energy, and sustainable food systems.
